Neuropathology Research Tissue Bank (NeuroRTB)

Introduction

Welcome to the Leeds NeuroPathology Research Tissue Bank (NeuroRTB). This tissue resource aims to provide high quality material for researchers of neurological cancers including Glioblastoma. Generously funded by Yorkshire Brain Tumour Charity and OSCAR's Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity, we are recruiting participants in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust to donate brain tissue, which is removed in surgery as part of routine clinical care and is not required for diagnosis.

We will make this material available to all researchers, with applications encouraged from all in the brain cancer research community.

Information for Donors

If you are having treatment or are awaiting treatment for a neurological condition at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, speak to your clinical care team or contact the NeuroRTB manager ([email protected]). The Information Sheet detailing what is involved can be downloaded below.

If you have any questions regarding your donation or any of the activities of the NeuroRTB please contact the NeuroRTB manager.

Information for Researchers

Governance

The NeuroRTB has received ethical approval from the NHS Research Ethics Service (NRES) and operates under the University of Leeds Human Tissue Authority Research Licence. As an NRES approved Research Tissue Bank, we have the ability to convey ethical approval and provide tissue, under agreement of tissue transfer agreement, allowing research to be carried out at facilities lacking a HTA Research Licence.

Samples

We have the expertise and facilities to collect fresh and frozen brain tissue and have access to NHS FFPE archives. In addition, we routinely collect blood samples, fractioned into cells, plasma and serum. We are also generating cell lines from paediatric samples.

We hold over 1700 samples of archival frozen tissue and blood from over 800 donors, absorbed from the Leeds Multidisciplinary Tissue Bank (NRES Ethics Reference 10-H1306-7).

For bespoke collections contact the RTB manager to discuss your requirements and how we can help.

How to apply

We want to make this valuable resource available as far and wide as possible. To discuss your sample requirements and apply for material, please contact the RTB Manager at [email protected]
